Join us on our journey to CPH certification

Hello,

We are Lindsay Novacek (Forsyth County Department of Public Health), Stephanie Fisher (Division of Public Health, Children & Youth Branch; UNC School of Nursing) and Jaimee Watts Isley (UNC School of Nursing) and we would like you to join along with us as we prepare to sit for the CPH certification exam in 2021. You can follow along with us month by month as we break down the exam content areas one by one in blog and podcast format, or you can follow along at your pace and your own schedule. There is no pressure attached- just space to learn & grow together!

At the end of our journey through the content, we encourage you to schedule a date to take the CPH exam through NBPHE. In fact, we have arranged a discount for the initial exam for all NCPHA members. Let us know if you complete the exam prior to NCPHA Fall Educational Conference so we can celebrate your hard work at the conference. And for those who take it at a later date, let us know how it went so we can properly celebrate your hard work!

Our first blog will cover what exactly CPH certification is all about, but first, here is a little about each of us so you can get to know us better! Please feel free to comment a little bit about yourself and your goals & reasons for wanting to get CPH certified!

Lindsay Novacek works closely with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and the Medical Provider for the Forsyth County Jail. She helps ensure that the detention center residents are receiving the quality medical care that is on par with national standards of care. Her favorite thing about nursing is that there are so many ways to be an exceptional nurse, and the many different routes you can take within the profession! Lindsay graduated from the University of Arizona College of Nursing with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. She also holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a Public Health Nurse Leader role concentration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, College of Nursing.

Stephanie Fisher is a Faculty Instructor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill  School of Nursing. She is also employed full-time as a Regional Public Health Nurse Consultant for the North Carolina Division of Public Health at the Department of Health and Human Services. In her 26 years of service, she has held many leadership positions in public health at the local and state level. She earned her doctorate degree in May of 2020 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she focused her research on Safe Infant Sleep Interventions in Public Health. She is a member of the North Carolina Nurses Association, the North Carolina Public Health Association, and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She is active in her community helping the underserved.

Jaimee Watts Isley has been a nurse for over a decade, both in the hospital and outpatient setting as well as in the community. Her research and advocacy interests center around strengthening the public health nursing workforce in North Carolina and she was the primary investigator on the first phase of the #NCPHNRecruitRetain study that began in 2018. Since graduating with her Doctorate in Nursing Practice, she began her first appointment as Assistant Professor at UNC School of Nursing where she is excited to teach, inspire and learn from the next generation of nurses. She is also a student herself, working on her MPH in Health Promotion and Policy. Jaimee is a current member of the North Carolina Nurses Association, the North Carolina Public Health Association, APHA Nursing section and Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society.
